Yehoram Gaon, Ladino, and Ben-Gurion University


     Yehoram Gaon, born in 1939, is a famous Israeli singer, actor, and writer whose career brought light to the dark time's of the 1970's all the way up to modern day Israel. He has taken on roles in films, such as Kazablan, I am a Jerusalemite, and From Toledo to Jerusalem. Some of his most famous songs include "Od lo Ahavti Dai", "Kavod", "Roza", and "Hineni Kan". One of his greatest contributions to Israeli culture are the songs he sang in Ladino.
     When his father, Moshe, passed away, he and his brother Benny founded the Moshe David Gaon Center for Ladino Studies at Ben-Gurion University. Today at the center, scholars work to preserve this Sephardic Jewish language and its long tradition of literature and oral history.
