WHY BGU NEGEV?

Why did I choose to go to the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, you might ask? There are many reasons. The first biggest decision-maker for me was the fact that BGU is in Israel. The State of Israel, its people, languages, and history have always fascinated me. Growing up learning Hebrew, Arabic, Yiddish, and Ladino, I have found a strong affinity for this region of the world.

The specific reason why I chose this particular university is opportunity. Both linguistics and anthropology are well established at BGU. Research topics such as linguistic theory, Israeli multiculturalism, archaeology, Bedouin Studies, Ladino, foreign literature, and ethnography manifest as classes, internships, field trips, and field work. These are all topics that I have a great interest in. BGU is well known for its humanities and social science establishments, such as the Moshe David Gaon Center of Ladino Culture, Robert H. Arnow Center for Bedouin Studies and Development, the David Breslauer Archaeological Laboratory, and the Haksherim - Research Institute for Jewish and Israeli Literature and Culture.

There are other great advantages to attending BGU. The university has an exquisite international student program. Included in the low tuition payment are group field trips around Israel, cultural activities, events, and much more. The housing is also a bonus. Dorms include a kitchen, a den, and top notch-view of the city. There's also lots to do in Be'er Sheva. Restaurants, shuks, open-air market places, museums, archaeological sites, and cultural festivals are but a few of the tourist attractions to experience. Why not Israel? Why not go to BGU? There's so much to see!
